I graduated from high school 3 days ago. 3 days prior to that, we played this piece for our final concert. I'm sure it goes without saying that this piece isn't normally one a high school band should ever think of attempting. Yet, we played it. Sure, we didn't sound like a prestigious college band, but we sounded like a really good high school band. This year for us was a really good year, as we performed in the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis as Union High School. One of the best musical experiences ever. This song holds a special place in my heart, not only being the masterpiece that it is, but as the final song that I played in my high school music experience, ending with being in a super, super solid group of musicians. Listening to it makes me think of life itself, and the experiences of going through high school in its good and bad moments. All the extremes of life, and all the little, quiet, easily overlooked moments in life. The overarching theme being the beauty of it all. I thank God for giving me the opportunities this year, and for creating music to be one of the most beautiful things in our world. Lastly, what a blast it was playing this. Super emotional, and super fun. 1st trumpet part goes crazy
Legends 🧡
Absolutely first rate! 👌🏻
my high school band performed this last year, and we got superior ratings at our state festival. I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to play in this, especially with the band I had.
Nice video, thanks and like. Did you notice that among the musicians there are not fat persons ? It, maybe, means that they went ALL from rich families not obliged to eat junk food. From Roma Italia
Very Pleasant arrangement. I did come for the Eight and 24 Fortes trombone parts, But still enjoyed the piece.
Beautiful Sax Solo!! ;-)
Ausgezeichnet gespielt! Grüße aus Süddeutschland!
Sounds like some gospel music❤
What a journey listening to this piece has been
This was the best band concert I have ever attended. I had so many goosebumps by the end of this performance. Truly incredible.

Spectacular performance. Bravo to everyone involved.
I heard one of the first performances of this piece (not the premier) at CBDNA in Waco in 95 I think it was?
Opening tempo is a bit frantic for my taste but fantastically executed by these superb musicians!
Why do you project the score behind Prof. Junkin?
Heard this piece once, on radio, many years ago, & recall being impressed with the Hussite hymn alongside the percussion in the finale. While short, this section seems an appropriate response to oppression even today.
As a long time percussionist,I am very familiar with this masterpiece, composed by the late,Karel Husa.. I played the snare part in both high school and Jr. College symphonic and Woodwind arts ensemble... I have listened to Prague being performed literally hundreds of times since '71-,73 and can state unequivocally, that this interpretation and performance,is the very best that I've heard to date... Absolutely stunning to my ears..

This music is fun.
I'm only 11 minutes in and I'm loving this. Can we do more Hot Ones, uhmmm, I mean Tastemakers Episodes with other conductors?
OMG so beautiful! I love this music on Princess Leia. Thank you to George Lucas for the film and John Williams for the immortal OST. 😊
Nagyon jó hangszerelés, alig hallani a különbséget az eredetihez képest, talán csak az intermezzo-ban, de abban sem zavaró.
Sehr gut gespielt, Respekt und Anerkennung! Grüße aus Bavaria
I saw David maslanka at lsu right before he passed . We played this and symphony no8
The greatest piece ever written for wind band, if not top 3.
That A-flat makes the whole piece at the end.
Marvelous that the artistic director, Jerry Junken, and the ensemble are performing as one. And I am certain that the joy and emotion of playing such remarkable music is shared by all wind instrument players as well as Mr Junken.

The joy of playing march is on equal footing with the joy and compotense of the ensemble. I can attest to the joy of performing The Florentineer March since we have performed it in concert in each of the two local concert bands which I have the privilege of playing the tuba!
7/10
Are there any concert bands that does not do classical music?
I love this piece..I'm a clarinet player..a long time ago..I switched to bass clarinet..this is so amazing..Leonard was way cool..
Man, what I would give to play this piece once in my life. As a trumpet player, this piece is amazing and perfectly plays to all instruments. Mackey truly is an amazing composer!
This is the first proper listen to this Maslanka piece, and it is amazing. It astounds me how he is able to join together chaotic musical passages and slow moving lyrical parts so well. And that ending with the suspension releases is so perfect. Bravo to the Wind Ensemble for playing such a challenging piece!
